Introduction to Clay

This class covers the fundamentals of pottery hand-building techniques and is great for people with little or no background in clay and pottery making.  Students will learn about the properties of clay, clay preparation, the firing process, and glazing.  Techniques taught will include pinch pots, coil construction, and slab construction.  The course fee will include 10 pounds of clay, with additional clay available for purchase.   Basic pottery tools will be available for use in the studio.  Students should bring a small hand towel for personal use, and may wish to bring an apron.  The course will consist of three 2-hour classes.  The cost is $125.00 per student

Slab-building workshop

This course is designed for those who have completed the Introduction to Clay course, or equivalent, who want to go further with hand-building. The course will focus on creating functional and decorative pieces using slab construction techniques. Students will create works the first week, and glaze them the second. The course fee will include 5 pounds of clay, with additional clay available for purchase. Basic pottery tools will be available for use in the studio. Students should bring a small hand towel for personal use, and may wish to bring an apron. The course will consist of two 2-hour classes. The cost is $70.00 per student

Introduction to Wheel

Designed for those who have had basic instruction in hand-building techniques, the class will cover the basics of wheel throwing.  Students will learn how to wedge clay, center clay on the wheel, and how to throw the fundamental shapes needed to produce pottery on the wheel.  The course fee will include 25 pounds of clay, with additional clay available for purchase.  Students will need to have basic clay tools, which will be available for purchase if needed.  Students should bring a small hand towel for personal use, and may wish to bring an apron. Students must have completed the Introduction to Clay course, or equivalent.  The course will consist of five 2-hour classes.  Each class is limited to a maximum of 3 students.  The cost is $200.

Intermediate Wheel

This course is designed for those students who have a basic understanding of wheel throwing, and who want to further refine their skills.  The course fee will include 25 pounds of clay, with additional clay available for purchase.  Students will need to have basic clay tools, which will be available for purchase if needed.  Students should bring a small hand towel for personal use, and may wish to bring an apron. Students must have completed the Introduction to Wheel course, or equivalent.  The course will consist of five 2-hour classes.  Each class is limited to a maximum of 3 students.  The cost is $200.

Throwing Tune-Up

This workshop is designed for the potter who has some experience with wheel throwing, but is struggling with some particular aspects of throwing.  It features one-on-one focused instruction to help students work through whatever pottery challenges they may have encountered.  Scheduling will be by arrangement with the instructor.  The cost is $35 per hour.  

iPhone Photography Workshop

With the release of the iPhone 11 and IOS 13 there are a lot of new features. In this workshop Ron Lowe will be reviewing all the new photography updates and also how the IOS 13 update affects all current iPhones from iPhone 6 through 11.

Who should attend:

- Anyone considering upgrading their current iPhone to IOS 13

- Anyone considering upgrading their existing iPhone to one of the new iPhone 11s, 11 Pro or Pro Max.

- Anyone interested in understanding what's new, what's changed and how to leverage the new photography features and technology.

Ron will be demonstrating many of the new photography, video, and editing features with his iPhone 11 Pro. The cost of this workshop is $25

How to take better pictures with your Smartphone

In this class, you will learn how to improve your ability to take better photos with your smartphone. You will learn techniques that will help you take great photos using just your smartphone. You will also learn how to utilize the power of your smartphone and its features to elevate your photography to a new level. The course will consist of one 2-hour class. The cost is $25.00 per student

Introduction to Digital Photography

To better understand Digital Photography requires knowledge of the underlying technology and its own unique language. In this course, participants will be introduced to the basics of Digital Photography, and they will learn how to navigate this modern day phenomenon. Students will learn what Digital Photography is, how it compares with Film Photography, and the vocabulary of Digital Photography (e.g., pixels, megapixels, megabytes). The many types of technology used to capture images using this medium will be covered, including DSLRs, point and shoot cameras, and smart phones. And finally, students will learn about the many ways to store, share and print all those images that they have taken.

The course will consist of one 2-hour class.  The class requires a minimum of 4 students and limited to a maximum of 12 students.  The cost is $25.00 per student.

Photography 101 – The basic concepts of photography

In this class you will learn about the basic concepts of photography and how to apply them, using your camera’s different settings and modes. You will learn how to make a great photograph versus taking a snapshot. You will be taught how to see the world differently through the lens of your camera. And you will learn how to get the results you want, whether your passion is nature, landscapes, portraits, or action shots. While this class is geared toward the use of DSLR cameras, users of all makes of cameras will learn how to take better photos.

Bring your camera and camera manual to each class. The course consists of 3 - 2 hour classes. The class requires a minimum of 4 students and limited to a maximum of 12 students. The cost is $80.
